I picked my daughter up from school today to take her to the doctor. It hurts to tinkle and she has to go like every ten minutes. Plus her urine is smelling really bad. And of course (sigh) it is a urinary tract infection, yet again. We have very bad genes, apparently. But I am getting ahead of myself. Where my story begins, the doctor hasn't even arrived yet. My daughter is sitting up on the examination table/bed (whatever they call those things) and she's flopping her flipflop back and forth against her foot so that it makes a 'thwop' sound each time she does it.
"I love it making my flipflop make that sound," is her bright eyed comment. Thwack. Thwack.
I smile back, but I'm thinking about how much her third grade teacher must love that sound too. My girls love flip flops. They love them because they can be fancy flip-flops, like Oka b.'s alexandra thongs with their rhinestone strap (and when you come from a family of tall genes - my older brother is six feet five inches - then you are bound to have girls with big feet.) Or there are heel flip flops like Oka b's Juliana.
But the biggest thing is that they can slip on and off without having to stoop down and untie them or tug at the heel (a huge bonus when you are talking about kids who play hard and don't like to waste time on particulars.) I personally love them to just have a regular old beach flip flop. Then their feet are never hot during those hot and humid summer months and I don't have to worry about them getting their feet wet in the lake near our house. So, my daughter's teacher may not like the thwack, thwack of those flip flops during school, but I am a huge fan of flip flops all year round!
